Gidarao Wins Sacramento Support for Stupid Sprawl Dear Editor, The Sept. 10 article "Developer gets approval for rezoning 111 acres" should have been on the front page. More stupid sprawl was approved by Sacramento County Supervisors. Thirty nine 2-3 acre lots will ruin prime habitat or ag lands. Groundwater supplies, water quality, clean air, and mass transit will suffer for it. Land speculator Steve Gidaro convinced another elected body to let him rezone farm or habitat land to housing. At the same time, he wants Yolo County residents to believe that he and his other developer investors in the Conaway Ranch will never try to convince a future elected body to let them rezone this rural land to highly profitable sprawl. In Davis, our city council is better insulated from developer pressure with its $100 per person campaign contribution limit. We also passed Measure J, which would force Gidaro's Sacramento project to a public vote as is occurring this November with the much higher density and more publicly-rewarding Covell Village project (www.covellvillage.com). If Sacramento had similar protections, it would get millions in community benefits from Gidaro's sprawl, not the $650,000 he is putting in for infrastructure his development will benefit from.
