Covell Village is Protection Against Gidaro's Development Plans
October 10, 2005

Dear Editor

The alternative to Covell Village is not the Hunts cannery site or the PG&E site on L Street.

The alternative is the proposal by Sacramento land speculator Steve Gidaro for his Shriner site to the east of Wildhorse or his Mace Gateway project to the east of Mace Road. Or its the Northwest Quadrant project to the west of Sutter hospital or more growth in South Davis or the Stonegate West project at the far west of town. Only these projects have the size to produce ten years of growth needs at 1% per year.

Growth will happen in Davis. The questions are where, when and how fast. If you want to know what other projects might look like, check out what Gidaro produces and imagine the worst of Mace Ranch with the least benefit's possible for the city.

Given how much Gidaro can make off of Covell Village's failure which would increase the odds his projects will be developed, my bet is that we will see a lot of his and his partners' money being use to convince people to vote No on X, probably at the last minute as he did in the 2004 city council election.

Please friends and neighbors, look at what we are getting with Covell Village and be honest in assessing this against any other project ever built in the town or region. This is far better than anything in the past and much better than we will see with the alternatives offered by the likes of Gidaro and company.

Don't vote against Covell Village in hopes of getting something better. In fact, help ensure that all future projects are at least as good as Covell Village by voting for Measure X in November. This is a great project. We will end up regretting it if we vote it down.

Thank you.
